Castle of Alanya

The castle is located 250 meters over the sea, and you have a great view from here. The building of the castle started even before Christ, and many different people have influenced the buildingprocess. The most influencial was the sultan Alaadin Keykubat. Around the castle is a 6 km long citywall, filled with outlookposts for the soldiers. At the tip of the hill is a place where prisoners had a chance on saving their lifes. They had three tries of throwing a stone (some say goat), down to the water. Because of the shape of the hill it was quite difficult, and if they couldn’t do it in three tries they were trown out of the hill and in to the sea.

The Dim River

This river lies in Dim valley at about 8 km from Alanya, not to far from the Dim caves. The river comes from the highlands of Konya, and runs about 200 km from there and down to Alanya. This is a very popular place to relax in the warm summerdays. There are plenty of restaurants along the river, and many have the tables and chairs inside the river.

The Lovers Cave

If you take one of the boattrips the boat will stop at this cave, and you can go inside if you like. Or stay on the boat if you are not to keen on small, dark places and high heights. Near the cave is the Ethnography Museum. By boat you can reach three other caves: the Phosphorous Cave with its phosphoric rocks, Girls Cave , where pirates held their women prisoners, and Lovers Cave . The cool shade of Dim Brook Valley, 15 km east of Alanya, is an ideal place to get away and relax. The sea all around Alanya is excellent for swimming.

Many people combine a visit to the city of Aspendos to a visit to Hadrian’s Gate in the city of Antalya, not too far away.

Cleopatra’s beach has been named after it’s most famous visitor, Queen Cleopatra of Eqypt, who spend time in the beach and in the city with the famous Roman general Mark Antony. The beach is best known for the special white sand, which is not available in any of the other beaches in Alanya. According to an old tale about the sand, it is because Cleopatra had the sand brought to her favorite beach all the way from Egypt’s desert dunes.
