Gazipasa Airport in Alanya
Gazipasa Airport in Antalya and almost now 20 years after construction started on the airport near Alanya in Turkey, a seaside resort in the Mediterranean region of Turkey and ne of the most popular destination, Gazipasa finally received its first scheduled flight last month.
Construction started in 1992 and now fully working airport and expected add extra power to Alanya holiday resort with flights and holidays soon . Following a tender from the Turkish General Directorate of Airports Authority, TAV Airports Holding in August 2007 won the right to operate Gazipasa for 25 years against a fixed yearly lease of $50,000 plus the payment of a 65% share of the annual profit to the government. After the handover, TAV extended the airport’s runway by 36 m. to 1,861 m. and is hoping to acquire an additional 500,000 sq. m. of land to expand the runway further to 2,400 m.
Gazipasa, also called Antalya Gazipasa, is 120 km. (75 mi.) west of Antalya. It has a yearly passenger capacity of 500,000. The terminal building covers 2,144 sq. m. TAV also operates Istanbul Ataturk, Ankara Esenboga and Izmir’s domestic terminal. Outside Turkey it controls Tbilisi and Batumi airports in Georgia and Monastir Habib Bourguiba in Tunisia.
Hurriyet stated that ; Officials hoped to turn Gazipa?a Airport into an aviation training center in 2005 although these plans failed to come to fruition as well. Later, locals began planting vegetables at the airport as the massive investment was completely abandoned.
The airport was brought into operation thanks to the investment of TAV, a highly reputable airport operations manager. TAV, a joint venture between Tepe and Akfen, will operate Gazipa?a for the next 24 years.
