Turkey 2 0 Armenia

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan arrived in the western Turkish city of Bursa Wednesday to attend a Turkey-Armenia World Cup qualifier as part of the two countries’ move to normalize ties after nearly a century of rift. Police have tightened security in the city, where the football match will be played on Wednesday evening. Turkish President Abdullah Gul travelled to Armenian capital Yerevan in September 2008 to watch a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between the two countries upon an invitation by Sargsyan on a landmark visit.

Sargsyan said he would only accept an invitation to the return match in Turkey due this month if Turkey takes “real steps” to open their borders. On Saturday, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and his Armenian counterpart Eduard Nalbandian signed protocols to establish diplomatic ties and develop bilateral relations in the Swiss city of Zurich.

The two sides agreed to open borders two months after the protocols entered into force. The protocols are yet to be ratified by the two countries’ parliaments. Turkey and Armenia have no diplomatic or economic ties since Armenia declared its independence in 1991. Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 to support Azerbaijan during its conflict with Armenia over the Upper Karabakh region, an enclave of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenian troops.

Turkey-Armenia rifts went back to the World War I period. Armenia claims more than 1.5 million Armenians were killed in a systematic genocide in the hands of the Ottomans during the time, which was denied by Turkey. However Armenian never talk and tell about what they did and carry on blaming Turkey. Alot of people needs to read true story of this and find out they self while Turkey has been blamed.

Armenia and Turkey World Cup Qualifier game started and first goals from Halil Antintop and Servet Cetin in the first-half gave the hosts a confident 2-0 victory over Armenia, even if they were reduced to ten men after half an hour. It was Fatih Terim’s last game in charge of the Turkish national side as coach and as a parting gift, the players produced a comfortable but not flambuoyant win against the bottom side in Group 5.

Armenia did try after that to take advantage but it was Turkey who had the better chances in the remainder of the match and it finished 2-0 to the hosts in Turkey and most important was both had a great game and it was wonderfull to see Armenia and Turkey had a football game together.

This was a historic game and will stay at the memories forever until everyone accepts what they did.
